July 30, 2011.

The peas are past but now the beans are ready for picking. Ellen, Joanne, and Ann picked some squash, a bag of cucumbers that were mostly too big, but the big yield came from the half runner beans.  They picked three plastic grocery bags full of beans!  When they realized how many beans there were, they all started picking them and weeding as they went along.

The beans have those nasty yellow spiky bugs eating the leaves.  They seem to come with the bean plants but they aren’t affecting the beans.

Ann pulled up the kale and Joanne weeded a few more tomatoes. Only a couple of tomatoes were ripe, but everyone felt good about what was accomplished. Ann took the day’s harvest to Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry.
