This week we had the biggest crowd ever: fifteen volunteers and all of them from First Presbyterian-Asheville. Michael invited the youth and not only did they come but their parents did too, including FPC Pastor Mark Burnham and his family. With that many volunteers we made quick work of picking squash, cucumbers, beans, and tomatoes and pulling weeds.
The volunteers created huge piles of weeds and dead pea plants and Suzie and Esther tied for “most meticulous weed pulling.” The lima bean plants are much happier now that they don’t have any competition and the tomatoes and cucumbers are breathing a little easier, too.
The group worked so well together that we finished up before 11:00 a.m., which was a welcome relief since it was hot. Thanks to Michael and the youth for taking our bounty to Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry.
