The Creation Care Task Force has scheduled several activities for our Christian observance of Earth Day, which is always on April 22; our Creation Care Sunday will be April 21. At worship, prayers and music will be selected to honor Gods’ creation. In the afternoon, FPC’s premier naturalists, Marily Kolton and Lou Dwarshuis, will lead a wildflower walk at the Botanical Gardens at 2:00 pm. That evening, WNC Green Congregations will host a candlelight/prayer vigil in Pritchard Park in solidarity with the Climate Convergence in Raleigh and FPC is invited to attend.
Several additional activities will also occur in the week leading up to Creation Care Sunday. To inaugurate FPC’s adoption of two blocks on Church Street and Lexington Avenue, the entire church is invited to our first bi-monthly clean-up on Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 am. On Wednesday, April 17, Charlene Frellick will prepare a local foods dinner followed by a program on Just Living (Sign Up HERE). And remember the Voluntary Gas Tax challenge lasts for the entire month of April! Make a commitment to take part in at least one of these activities to honor Gods’ creation.
“We are stewards to beating hearts and thirsty roots; a title that cannot be taken lightly” (Fig & Fauna)
That quotation is from a blog entry written by Fig + Fauna Farm owners Michelle and Michael Martin. They raise food in South Florida.
As the Creation Care team moves through showing and teaching from the Food, Inc. DVD, the distance we are from the sources of our food is made obvious.
How deeply the rituals of planting, nurturing, and harvesting connect us to the lifestyles of the early followers of Jesus….and disconnect us from the facelessness and greed surrounding the industry of food.
Please join us as we faithfully explore our food industry and our personal choices together.

For a donation of $65 you can honor your family, friends, and loved ones. The Flower Guild arranges the flowers and uses a local florist—help is always welcome.
